Novaprint Moves Up to Five-Colour
5 Oct 2006
Leicester-based Novaprint Limited has made its first move into five-colour printing with the purchase and installation of a year 2000 model Heidelberg Speedmaster 52-5P.
The high automation level on the machine has been an immediate hit with director Andrew Robinson. “The new press has helped us to dramatically reduce make-ready times. We are now getting the press ready to print in just 10 to 15 minutes, and because we are using CtP generated plates, it takes just 20 sheets or so before we are running in perfect register.
“The CP2000 off-press control panel makes minor adjustments very easy for the operator, and the five-unit configuration means that we can print four-colour work and seal it all in one pass,” added Andrew.
The five-unit configuration is also equipped with a perfecting unit to provide for 3/2 printing. “We have some jobs that are two-colours on each side of the sheet, so the perfector means that we can print these jobs in just one pass. The speed is a significant improvement too – up to 15,000 sheets per hour, as opposed to just 9,500 on the older machine.”
Andrew and fellow director Steve Tilbury part-exchanged a four colour 1991 Heidelberg GTOV-S when putting in the new press. The SM52-5P joins a GTOZ52+ which was also purchased through DPM
