Move to B2-Format for M D Jenkins

M D Jenkins Printers Limited, Lydney, Gloucestershire, has invested in its first B2 two-colour press after nearly 50 years of print production. The company purchased the Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 through used equipment specialist DPM, Westerham, Kent.

“Our business has always been based on B3 single-colour machinery,” said managing director Mike Jenkins. “But the market is demanding more and more colour, and whilst our minders have been able to produce colour work effectively on our existing equipment, we found that we were beginning to lose out on price to the bigger printers. The move to B2 means that we can be more flexible and more profitable with our colour printing.”

Having discovered supplier DPM via the internet, Mike and son Haydn Jenkins made contact with the company, and then went to see the press in Newcastle. “We were very impressed with the machine, and the price was right for our size of business,” said Mike, who had also looked at the option of buying from new. “The price difference versus a new press was significant. With this machine we got a very high specification product for less than half the price of a new one.”

Mike was also impressed with the support provided by DPM. “Although it was our first contact with the company, they were very supportive of what we wanted to do. The technical service has been excellent, and they just did everything that we asked them to do – new rollers on the press, new guards, and visits when we needed them.”

“Our press minders have been very impressed at the ease of operation of the SM74, and the machine has allowed us to increase our throughput of work significantly. I would certainly contact DPM again for our next press purchase,” concluded Mike Jenkins.

Commenting on the installation, DPM managing director Mark Sheldrick said, “We have recently been involved with quite a few larger machine sales including ten and eight colour presses, but smaller installations such as this two-colour are just as important to us, and our dedication to the highest quality service remains, whether customers need a single or ten colour product.

“This particular installation highlights our ability to service the whole of the UK. Our policy of bringing machines back to our facility in Westerham to carry out a thorough check and service ensures smooth delivery, installation and commissioning. The most important thing is to minimise the disruption at our customer’s business and to ensure that his new asset is in full production as soon as possible.

“Customer's are realising more and more the benefits of buying machines from us. Buying cheap can often mean corners are cut and things can end in tears! We do not sell cheap machines, but high quality used equipment with the very best customer service – that's what counts!”

Six-year-old DPM handles used presses from all major manufacturers, including MAN Roland, Heidelberg and Komori. DPM’s company philosophy is based on quality, integrity and above all, honesty.

The aim of the company is to be recognised as the best supplier in the used machinery sector, and believe that this can only be achieved by conducting successful business over a long period of time and in all sectors of the market.
