Lowfield Adds More Four-Colour Capacity

Lowfield Printing Company, Dartford, has doubled its B2-format colour printing capacity with the addition of a Komori Lithrone L428EM press. The machine was purchased from leading used machinery supplier DPM, Westerham, Kent, and means that the printer is now running two presses on a 24-hour, 5 day a week shift system.

“We had significantly increased our turnover during the course of 2004, and were desperate to add more four-colour capacity to meet the additional demand from customers,” said Lowfield director, James Dow.

“We have always achieved excellent printed results from used machinery, and had no hesitation in looking to the used sector again for this additional press. The Komori proved to be the ideal choice of press due to its physical size, and DPM were able to come up with the right machine at the right price,” he added.

Once the decision was taken to purchase the machine, Lowfield expected its supplier to move quickly. “Having reached a decision, we wanted to have the machine installed and running as soon as possible. DPM were able to purchase, check, clean and install the machine in just six weeks. There is simply no way we could have added a new-build machine is that sort of timescale,” said James Dow.

“The DPM engineers were excellent – the installation went very smoothly, and they have been quickly to hand when we needed them to make a few necessary final adjustments once we had started producing work on the machine,” he added.

Lowfield Printing Company has increased its turnover during the last year from £650,000 to over £1 million, with a team of 14 personnel. The company produces a wide range of commercial colour print, including financial forms, brochures and magazines, and fast-turnaround work such as marketing material and match day programmes for football clubs. The company attributes this increase in sales to a hands-on approach, attention to detail, service, quality and price.

Komori presses form the backbone of DPM’s recently created Japanese Press operation, headed up by Wayne Beckett.
