Maslands, Tiverton, Devon, has installed a used Heidelberg Speedmaster SM74-5P. The five-colour press was purchased from leading used machinery supplier Direct Press Marketing (UK), Westerham, Kent.
Commenting on the purchase, Mike Boniface of Maslands, said, “The addition of a second full-colour capable, B2-format litho press was the last stage of a five-year expansion plan for the company. With such high depreciation on new presses, investing in used equipment made considerable financial sense for the business. We knew what machine we required to complete our equipment line-up, and DPM very quickly came up with the right solution. “The machine was situated in Germany, but before we could get to see the press running it had been dismantled, so we really had to place our trust in DPM regarding the condition of the machine and quality of the print that it could produce.
The whole process from DPM’s initial contact to us having the machine installed and running took just three months, which was great. The five-unit press incorporates a perfector providing for 3/2 printing, and sits alongside a similar four-unit machine. “The print quality is excellent, and although we have had a couple of minor teething troubles with the machine since the installation, DPM’s engineers have been with us very quickly and carried out any adjustments required – all covered under the terms of DPM’s warranty,” added Mike Boniface. Maslands is a 130-year-old print business which currently employs 25 personnel. The business provides a wide range of general commercial print via both litho and digital presses for customers throughout the south-west of the country and beyond.
The company’s current expansion programme has included moving from its high street location in Tiverton to an industrial site on the edge of town, as well as the introduction of four-colour printing, computer-to-plate, digital print, and bindery equipment. The addition of this second press completes the series of investments for the time being. Six-year-old DPM handles used presses from all major manufacturers, including MAN Roland, Heidelberg and Komori. DPM’s company philosophy is based on quality, integrity and above all, honesty.
The aim of the company is to be recognised as the best supplier in the used machinery sector, and believe that this can only be achieved by conducting successful business over a long period. “Honesty can only be judged by familiarity, therefore we are happy to provide our customers with a list of our satisfied clients and let them decide if they want to deal with us,“ said DPM managing director Mark Sheldrick. DPM’s experienced sales team have close contact with many companies worldwide meaning that they are often the first to hear of equipment when it becomes available. They use a purpose built computer system developed to search and locate equipment within minutes of receiving an enquiry. The system is updated hourly with new items and currently has over 20,000 products available worldwide.
